The Treasurer will disburse funds contributed to the church in a responsible and timely manner as directed by the church council for the ministry of the congregation, maintaining detailed records and providing financial reports as required, while performing all duties in mindful and prayerful support of the mission of the church to follow Jesus and lead others to him.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS OF CANDIDATE • Express and live a personal relationship/walk with Jesus Christ • Preferably possess a degree in Accounting, Finance or General Business; comparable work experience may be accepted • Experience with bookkeeping & preparing payroll • Possess good computer skills and proficiency in QuickBooks & Microsoft Office • Display excellent organizational skills • Demonstrate trustworthiness and the ability to maintain confidentiality • Possess good communications skills and enjoy working as a part of a team with the church staff and congregation
KEY MINISTRY RESPONSIBILITIES • Disburse all money contributed to causes represented in the church budget and other funds and contributions as the Church Council may determine. • Submit monthly contributions to Conference for mission share. • Attend monthly Finance Committee and Church Council meetings and share treasurer reports on funds received and expensed. • Collect W4s as need to prepare year-end 1099s • Keep records of endowment accounts and the quarterly interest received. • Maintain a record of ALL receipts and payment of bills including documentation and approval of those payments. • Prepare a report to Church Council of all designated funds that are separate from the current expense account. • Help prepare annual budget. • If vacation plans fall on the last week of the month, have all bills paid and payroll deposited. • Keep in contact with the Chairman of Finance as needed. • Maintain regular communications with Church Office, at least on a weekly basis. • Submit payroll to Paychex (vendor) monthly. • Maintain worksheet of ARK & Church payroll to balance with Paychex after input. • Transfer money from the church and ARK into payroll account • Submit annual Workers Compensation calculation and payment to the conference center. • Prepare monthly reports as needed for ministry areas such as Trustees, Missions, Youth, etc. • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for general, payroll, savings, and ARK accounts. • Balance church credit card (Amex) monthly working with staff and pay (separating Church & Ark) • Maintain payroll procedure checklist and other procedure checklists as necessary for backup. • Prepare Annual Finance Reports for Church Conference and Annual Conference. • Fulfill additional duties and responsibilities as needed or outlined in the Discipline • Change over files yearly – keeping 7 years of files
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT • Part-time (10-15 hours per week; hours fluctuate depending upon fiscal schedule) • Needed on-site at times, but certain tasks can be accomplished remotely • Adherence to CUMC Staff Handbook rules of conduct • The Treasurer reports directly to the Lead Pastor, works closely with Finance Committee and chairperson, and is part of the Church Program Staff • Safe sanctuary training with background check, including Act 33/34 and FBI Clearance • An evaluative process is in place to assess this staff person’s effectiveness as well as to discern how to best resource this person for her/his ministry
