Seth was born in Brookville, PA and grew up in the Evangelical UMC there where his great-grandfather, the Rev. Perry Pyle, had served. Nurtured not only by his local church but also by seeing his parents and their friends love and care for local at-risk youth at the Christian teen center they started, Seth’s formative years were spent at the teen center watching the church be the church in the community. A year after graduating high school, he married Heather Parker (daughter of the Revs. David & Alice Jean Parker), celebrating 20 years last May. They have three daughters, Laylah, Naavah and Eliyah – aged 14, 13 and 12.

After beginning college at Gardner-Webb University in NC for Pre-Medicine, Seth obeyed the call to pastoral ministry and they moved to Kentucky in 2000. Seth enrolled at Asbury University finishing with a Bible/Theology degree and then graduated from Asbury Theological Seminary in 2006. Following seminary, his first appointment was at Bethel UMC in Hollsopple in the Johnstown District. His second appointment was in the Kane District with Good Shepherd UMC in North Clarion.

Seth is closing out his almost six years as an associate pastor for Christ UMC in Bethel Park where he has served as Pastor for Congregational Care and, most recently, Pastor of Discipleship for this large suburban congregation. He is currently in the Rhetoric and Communication Studies PhD program at Duquesne University where he teaches a public speaking course as well. Seth was a delegate to the 2012 and 2016 General Conferences and first alternate to the 2019 specially called General Conference in St. Louis. He presently serves on the Conference Council of Finance and Administration.

He has a passion for teaching Bible and theology, especially the Old Testament, and leading conversations of visioning and discernment. When not leading, teaching, studying, or reading, he can be found hanging out with his family at his girls’ sports and music events – or running on a trail somewhere.
