Kitchen Manager

THE POSITION

The Kitchen Manager is responsible for the overall operation of Community Church’s kitchen as it serves ministry events, special events, and The Well Café. The Kitchen Manager does not have to be present at all times of operation, functions, or events of the kitchen but must manage for proper operation thereof, coordinate volunteers, delegate tasks to make kitchen routines and events successful as a support ministry. The Kitchen Manager is part of the program staff of the church and works closely with The Well Café Manager and other staff and ministries.

QUALIFICATIONS OF CANDIDATE

  • Express and live a personal walk with Jesus Christ that is friendly and enthusiastic in working with others regardless of age
  • Self-motivated individual with strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Strong communication skills to be able to interact with the staff, volunteers, vendors, etc.
  • Demonstrated abilities or willingness to be trained in food/dining management including but not limited to inventory planning, purchasing, kitchen operation, food preparation, and sanitation compliance
  • Working and growing knowledge of equipment and components of operation of a commercial kitchen
  • Ability to work well individually as well as work collaboratively with teams

KEY MINISTRY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage overall operations of church kitchen for ministry events and special events
  • Assist in coordination of plans for the yearly Lenten Fish Dinners
  • Manage volunteers of the kitchen, including the coordination of any needed shifts
  • Train and supervise volunteers to be able to prepare and serve
  • Ensure proper sanitation steps are taken before and after all kitchen-utilized events
  • Maintain proper inventory levels for the kitchen
  • Work with Facilities Director and Trustees on maintaining of kitchen space and equipment replacement
  • Maintain proper health permits and code compliance for the kitchen
  • Develop and provide information about food service options for Church Office use
  • Oversee organizing volunteer kitchen crews for various events/functions including, but not limited to: specially scheduled church meals, funeral luncheons, Wednesday evenings at Café
  • Coordination with The Well Café Manager for creation of baked goods & goodies for the café
  • As able, attend weekly Church Program Staff meetings to ensure coordination of kitchen opportunities with the church ministries and church calendar
  • Help to shape future for the kitchen and Food Ministry in consultation with Lead Pastor and SPRC

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Position is part-time – up to 15 hours weekly with expectation of expansion of hours in the future
  • Adherence to and keeping the qualities and characteristics of church employees, as defined by Staff Guidebook
  • The Kitchen Manager reports to the Lead Pastor
  • Ability to pass Safe sanctuary policy and training with full background checks, including but not limited to Act 33/34 and FBI Clearance; and other training as deemed necessary

 JOB EVALUATION

An annual evaluation process will be in place to assess this staff person’s effectiveness, as well as discern how to best resource this person for her/his ministry. Employee is assigned a SPRC rep as a liaison.
