Assistant Worship Leader - Current Service

THE POSITION

The Assistant Worship Leader for Current Service would be assisting the Director of Worship in creating, leading, and the performance of the Current (contemporary) Worship service weekly. The role is part of the program staff and sits in on the Creative Team that designs and plans worship services for Community.

QUALIFICATIONS OF CANDIDATE

  • Express and live a personal relationship/walk with Jesus Christ
  • Exhibit a Christ-centered, passionate, friendly, and enthusiastic spirit in working with others regardless of age
  • Desire to “Follow Jesus and Lead Others to Him as evidenced by actively sharing the love of Jesus with our community and church family
  • Self-motivated individual with strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Training and/or experience in worship/worship arts for contemporary worship
  • An instrumentalist

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to play drums as part of current worship team
  • Training in music theory and instrumentation
  • Willingness to transition into Current Worship Leader as the ministry need develops
  • Ability to recruit, lead, teach, train, and equip volunteer musicians

KEY MINISTRY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with clergy, musicians, AV team, and program directors to aid in selection and preparation of music appropriate to the themes of worship services and special programs (i.e., VBS, Christmas)
  • Help lead, prepare, and equip current worship team for worship services
  • Lead weekly rehearsals and involvement in setup and teardown of stage
  • Aid in scheduling musicians and vocalists
  • Organize, monitor, and maintain contemporary music library for the church
  • On occasion attend weekly staff meetings, and other administrative or planning meetings
  • Vision for developing contemporary worship as vital part of Community Church
  • Strive to maintain a spirited visible presence for the music program within the church and its outreach into the community

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Position is part-time (15 hours per week)
  • Adherence to and keeping the qualities and characteristics of CUMC employees, as defined by Staff Handbook
  • The Current Assistant Worship Leader works with the Director of Worship and reports to the Lead Pastor
  • Ability to pass Safe sanctuary policy and training with full background checks, including but not limited to Act 33/34 and FBI Clearance; and other training as deemed necessary

 JOB EVALUATION

An evaluation process will be in place with the Lead Pastor through the Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) to assess this staff person’s effectiveness as well as to discern how to best resource this person for her/his ministry. Employee is assigned a SPRC rep as a liaison.

Director of Student Ministries/Current Worship Assistant

THE POSITION

The Director of Student Ministries/Current Worship Assistant will provide leadership for the spiritual education, recreation, fellowship, service, and mission for students grades 6-12 and participate and assist in facilitating the Current worship service.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Loves the Lord and lives a life that demonstrates the convictions of a mature faith
  • Faithful attendance at worship services and fellowship activities
  • Desire to “Follow Jesus and Lead Others to Him”
  • A history of positive interaction with youth, youth leaders and families
  • Instrumentalist
  • Training and/or experience in worship/worship arts for contemporary worship
  • Good administrative skills to develop and lead ministry teams
  • Has demonstrated spiritual gifts in the areas of Leadership and Teaching
  • Demonstrated skills in organization, budgeting, and planning
  • A working knowledge of the Bible as evidenced by formal training
  • A college degree with relevant coursework in youth and adolescent development and/or have experience in youth/student ministry
  • A knowledge of a variety of secular and contemporary Christian Music trends

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Work with parents and volunteers to build teams to oversee the planning and implementation of other youth programs according to the needs of the youth, including the following:
    1. Outreach and community service projects
    2. Special events such as summer mission trips, winter camp retreats, etc.
    3. Participation in the 6th-8th grade Confirmation program
    4. Active support of high school Bible Clubs and other community youth organizations
  • Be a visible participant in the life of Community Church and the Youth activities of the local school districts and community

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Position is 30 hours per week with benefits, with possibility of expansion to 40 hours
